Not only are their clients provided with 24-hour supervision and medical care, but they are provided with programs that work to stabilize even the most severe of withdrawal symptoms. Terrance House is a more comfortable stabilization alternative to staying in a hospital. Their capacity is set at 68 residents, allowing for each individual to have the necessary time and care given to them by the clinicians and other members of their treatment team. Horizon health services through Terrance House include skill development, community support groups, aftercare planning, medication assistance as needed, education groups, recovery coaching, gender-specific treatments, and dog therapy. Clients often complete the detoxification services prior to enrolling in Horizon Village’s residential treatment program, but completing these steps sequentially promotes longer-term sobriety and a more successful outcome for each client.

The Buffalo VA Healthcare System offers varying levels of care to veterans suffering from substance abuse disorders as well as any co-occurring disorders that are also causing complications. These clients will be evaluated to determine which level of care and which recovery services will be most beneficial, and then a plan is designed to meet those needs. Some of the options include individual counseling, group therapy, medication management, community support, various health services, nutritional guidance, anger management classes, and more. The services available are very dependant on the individual client, but if the VA center doesn’t offer the necessary services, clients will receive a referral to a trusted rehab facility that does offer that service or program. This facility is especially capable in treating veterans struggling with homelessness or unemployment as well as chemical dependency.

Pathways is an outpatient medication-assisted treatment facility that offers services to adult men and women struggling with addiction to heroin, prescription painkillers, or other opioids. The main form of substance abuse treatment here does involve medications such as Methadone, Vivitrol, and Suboxone. Clients will also participate in different group therapies or individual therapy. Combining medication with behavioral health therapies is one of the best ways to motivate clients to consider remaining in treatment longer, especially for clients suffering from more severe withdrawal symptoms. These medications can minimize those symptoms, allowing the individual to commit more time and energy to therapy where the real healing begins. Medication assistance is often a critical piece of the recovery journey for men and women suffering from opioid addictions or alcohol addiction, and participating in these programs helps to reduce relapses and overdoses. Pathways may refer their clients to other rehab programs that offer inpatient drug and alcohol treatment or to a different recovery center that is able to provide long-term support. Pathways in Buffalo does accept Medicaid or self-pay options.

The outpatient programs through Erie County Medical Center help thousands of clients struggling with drug abuse through comprehensive substance abuse programs that address all areas of need. Clients will be evaluated in order to determine if they are in need of short-term counseling or long-term treatment services. They will have access to weekly individual therapy, group programs, and medication assistance as needed. Clinicians prioritize patient-driven treatment, meaning that each client is met where they are at and allowed to drive the program at a pace they are comfortable with. The overall goal is to address the client’s needs, meet their recovery goals, and promote a sense of overall wellness that can be maintained once the program ends.
