Step 1

Reno, Nevada

Step 1

Reno, Nevada

Step 1 is a male-only recovery center that works specifically with low or no-income and homeless individuals. Clients seeking help through this facility must either be released from incarceration, from a homeless shelter, the court system, or by concerned family members. These treatment plans include peer support, various evaluations, and individual therapies and support groups. This recovery program is meant to increase the access that these men have to treatment services that can help them address and overcome any drug abuse or alcohol addiction that may have led to financial struggles or may be as a result of their homelessness. The overall goals of Step 1 are to help each man remain sober, improve their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, repair relationships or build healthier relationships, learn skills that will set them up for success, and re-enter their community with a healthy mindset and ability to give back to the community.

Editorial Note
This facility is not accredited, but it was important to include because of the access it gives to addiction recovery. It also has a decent review score and there is also a lack of accredited facilities within this area.

The Center for Behavioral Health is a medication-assisted treatment program that offers outpatient services to adult men and women. Medications such as Methadone, Suboxone, and Vivitrol are helpful in addressing withdrawal symptoms, cravings, or pain due to opioid abuse or alcohol addiction. The initial screening is free of charge and allows the treatment team to assess the client’s needs and determine what will be the most effective treatment options moving forward. Other available services through this rehab facility include drug or alcohol evaluations, lab testing, DUI classes, and individual counseling sessions. Each of these is available at a set price per visit. Center for Behavioral Health does accept Medicare and Medicaid as well. Aftercare services are also provided at no charge. Clients who need help through a longer-term treatment facility may be referred to a rehab center that better fits their needs and can offer more specialized care.

All treatment programs and levels of care offered through Bristlecone are comprehensive, individualized, and promote overall wellness in each client. Services are primarily evidence-based but also combine holistic options to create a well-rounded program that addresses all the needs of the client. Services include targeted case management, community outreach, education, life-skills groups, financial counseling, family programs, and group education services. The residential program typically lasts around 4 weeks long, but this is contingent on the client and their progression through the treatment plan. This level of care focuses on a combination of mental health therapies, addiction education, occupational training, and recreational activities to rehabilitate the entire person. Clients also have access to aftercare planning and transitional living services that give the person freedom but also continue providing them with support and help if needed.

Reno Addiction Recovery Support

  • How can a MAT clinic help me?

Medication-assisted treatment facilities typically provide outpatient access to different types of medications specifically designed to help clients suffering from opioid or alcohol withdrawal. In Reno, centers such as the Center for Behavioral Health are MAT-only clinics. This means that medications such as Methadone or Suboxone make up the majority of their service offerings. These facilities may also offer individual therapy or support groups, but their goal is to give immediate access to medications that reduce those withdrawal symptoms. Other facilities, such as Ridge House, may offer medication assistance, but it is not their only form of treatment available.

What is the difference between an IOP and PHP?

Partial Hospitalization Programs offer the highest level of care and support without becoming a residential programs. Depending on the specific facility, clients will participate in a certain number of hours each week. Those hours typically extend the entire day and can make up 4-5 days out of the week. Clients are then able to go home at the end of the night and sleep in their own bed. Intensive Outpatient Programs are another step-down, typically only requiring 10 hours each week. These programs may take place a few days out of the week, but they are designed for clients who have jobs, school, or family members that prevent them from being able to commit 100% of their time to recovery.

What if I need detoxification services?

In many cases, treatment facilities that offer inpatient services will also have access to detoxification services. If it is determined that you need medically supervised withdrawal before completing any more of the treatment program, the facility you are enrolled in will have trust facilities nearby that they may refer you to.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous: AA meetings are often a critical piece of any recovery program, especially for men and women who are in an alcohol rehab program or who need continued support following the completion of their program. This website gives meeting times and locations of Alcoholics Anonymous groups in the Reno area.

Narcotics Anonymous: NA is similar to Alcoholics Anonymous in that it provides support to men and women struggling with drug addiction. This website offers access to in-person and virtual NA meetings around Nevada.

Al-Anon: When it comes to drug or alcohol addiction, family members of the individual who is addicted may also need support during this process. Al-Anon connects family members and loved ones with others in the area to discuss their experiences, educate themselves about addiction, and create a support system in the community. This website offers meetings and other resources for family members in Nevada.
