New York City Addiction Recovery Support

  • Alcoholics Anonymous: This website offers state-wide locations for AA meetings as well as other resources to help men and women in the state of New York who are suffering from alcohol addiction. Not only do these meetings connect individuals with others dealing with similar situations, but it connects individuals in early recovery with men and women who have been in recovery much longer. This allows these people to develop coping skills that work for others.

Narcotics Anonymous: The New York City Area Narcotics Anonymous website provides access to NA meetings across the state. This website also lists community events, treatment services, and other resources that could be beneficial in helping individuals with drug addiction.

NYC Al-Anon: Al-Anon meetings are meant to help loved ones of individuals suffering from addiction. These meetings across New York provide support for family members to make sure that they are also taking care of themselves and their mental health. This website offers information about these meetings as well as other community events and resources that can help clients and their loved ones.

New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services: As a government organization, they are able to provide a list of trustworthy resources, overdose prevention programs, community outreach events, hotlines for crisis interventions, and a heroin prevention task force. • What is the scope of drug addiction in New York City?

In 2020, there were 2,062 confirmed deaths due to opioid overdoses. Most of these overdoses came from areas such as The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. In 2010, it was reported that almost 10% of New York residents consistently used illicit substances, making the state average higher than the national. Unfortunately, when it comes to substance abuse, clients don’t often seek help for their addiction and end up overdosing or relapsing even when they do try to get help.

What are the different types of rehabs offered in New York?

Though there are many types of treatment facilities and levels of care for New York residents, one of the main treatment forms for individuals suffering from alcohol or opioid addiction is medication-assisted treatment. These clinics provide medications to help minimize withdrawal symptoms as well as counseling services. Other facilities may offer programs that include inpatient or outpatient programs in order to meet clients where they’re at and address their needs in a program that best suits their schedules.

    Is MAT right for me?

Medication assistance is for adult men and women struggling with alcohol addiction or opioid abuse. These medications can only be used once a client is fully detoxed, meaning that there are no longer drugs in the system. Clients who are interested in MAT will need to undergo a full medical evaluation to make sure that the medications are safe to use.
